Music and Conflict Transformation: Harmonies and Dissonances in Geopolitics

Introduction

About the Project

"One can wonder why the acclaimed researcher and academic Johan Galtung, one of the founders of peace studies, finds himself side by side in this volume with one of the greatest figures in protest music, Pete Seeger, the man who has offered 'Where Have all the Flowers Gone' to the anti-Vietnam war movement, and who let Martin Luther King Junior discover 'We Shall Overcome.' However, the real question is: why has it taken so long? It is high time for the human brain and heart to join forces and explore and apply the power of music for peaceful and effective conflict transformation.

"With contributors coming from all continents, a mixture of academics and professional musicians, with differing and sometimes conflicting opinions concerning political issues and the nature of music, this volume is vibrating with harmonies and dissonances."

About this Site

The goal of this site is to provide the features that couldn't go into a book. After all, what's a book about music without music? This growing site will include material that complements various chapters of Music and Conflict Transformation. Features will be added gradually, so please check back often.
