Felicity Laurence, Ph.D.
is lecturer in the Music Department at Newcastle University , UK
, children's choir specialist, and composer. She has written about
children's singing and published children's choral works (African
Madonna, BCUP 1990, Arbugi 1997, Dreams of Mother Earth, Arbugi
1998) whose themes address intercultural relationships. Her research
explores musicking and empathising within and beyond educational
contexts.
Rik Palieri is a professional
musician, composer, singer, banjo player and storyteller. As composer,
h is original songs have been praised by folk legends like Pete
Seeger, U. Utah Phillips and Jimmy Driftwood. H e has performed
in almost every state in the continental US as well as in Europe
and Australia . He has appeared on TV and radio shows worldwide,
as well as at numerous folk festivals, such as The Philadelphia
Folk Festival , The Champlain Valley Folk Festival and the Vancouver
Folk Festival.

Maria Elena Lopez Vinader,
M.A. is a professional music therapist, and international director
of Music Therapists for Peace. She has her own radio program entitled
Imagine: Peace is Possible. She is co-convenor of the Commission
on Art and Peace of the International Peace Research Association
and co-director of the Transcend : Art and Peace N etwork (T:AP).
She designs workshops and courses where she integrates the healing
power of music with logotherapy and peace education.
Kjell Skyllstad is Professor
emeritus of the Department of Musicology at the University of Oslo,
Norway. As founder and director of Intermusic Center (www.intermusiccenter.com)
he was an early pioneer and promoter of intercultural work in Norway.
Exploring the field of music education for conflict transformation
and peace, he became research director of the Norwegian Resonant
Community project, and later led out in music cooperation projects
with India , Sri Lanka, Thailand , Indonesia, Zimbabwe and Croatia.
Olivier Urbain, Ph.D. (editor)
is Research Fellow at the Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy
Research, Tokyo , Japan . He was previously professor of modern
languages and peace studies at Soka University , Japan . A firm
believer in the power of music for conflict transformation, he is
the founder and co-convenor of the Commission on Art and Peace of
the International Peace Research Association.

Peter van den Dungen, Ph.D.
(foreword) is professor in the Department of Peace Studies at
the University of Bradford, UK. His main research interests, in
addition to peace history, concern the potential of peace museums
as sources and expressions of a culture of peace. He is the founder
(1992) and general coordinator of the International Network of Museums
for Peace and editor of "Peace Museums Worldwide " (Geneva:
UN Library, 1998). He has organized numerous events and lectured
widely for the worldwide promotion of peace museums.
Baruch Whitehead, Ph.D. is associate
professor of Music Education at Ithaca College, U.S. , where he
is also the founder and director of the Orff-Schulwerk Certification
Program, the director of After School Program for Underrepresented
Students, and the founder and director of the Syracuse Gospel Choir
"Unshackled." An accomplished oboist, he also organizes
workshops on African music and dance.
